A finely hand-knotted Persian Bijar runner in an unusually narrow 1'10" width, making it a rare size for hallways and passages where standard runners don’t fit. Woven in the Bijar region of Iran — famous for the so-called “Iron Rugs of Persia” — this piece combines durability, dense pile, and a classical repeating medallion design.

This runner is built around a traditional Bijar repeat-medallion layout: a line of rounded, scalloped medallions runs down the center of a richly patterned red field. The proportions are elegant and elongated, but the real magic of this rug is in the color story.

Color Story

  • Primary field color: the background is a deep Persian red, closer to pomegranate/madder red than bright scarlet — warm, saturated, and slightly shaded, the kind of red you see on good village Bijars. It gives the rug its overall warmth.

  • Central medallions: each round medallion sits in a midnight navy / inky indigo ground. This navy is dark enough to read almost black in low light but reveals blue undertones in daylight. That dark field creates a dramatic contrast against the red ground.

  • Medallion interiors: inside those navy frames you get small, repeating Persian motifs in ivory, soft cream, and light rose, plus tiny hits of turquoise-sky blue and cool steel blue. Those lighter colors keep the rug from feeling heavy and help the pattern “pop.”

  • Accent colors in the field: scattered throughout the red field are small geometric floral devices in teal-green, olive, walnut brown, dusty pink, and dark denim blue. These are used sparsely — not to change the main color, but to give the surface life when you look closely.

  • Borders: the main border is on an ivory / pale cream ground with a meandering floral-and-leaf repeat in red, navy, pink, brown, and sky blue. This light border frames the richer interior and gives the runner a finished, collectible look.

  • Outlines & details: some motifs are outlined in brick red or dark brown for definition, and there are tiny golden-tan/yellow ochre touches at the tips of the medallions that add a warm highlight.

  • Overall, the palette is classically Bijar: red + navy + ivory, but with more nuance — multiple blues, two reds, warm browns, and soft pink notes — so it reads rich and old-world, not flat.

Because of this layered palette, the runner will work with cherry, walnut, and oak floors, and it’s friendly to both warm and cool interiors — the red and ivory warm it up, the navy and blue anchor it.

Rarity / Size Note

Most Persian runners were woven around 2'6"–3' wide. At only 1'10" wide, this is a narrower-than-usual Bijar runner, which is genuinely harder to find — great for townhome hallways, beside a bed, between built-ins, or in passageways where you only have about 2 feet of clearance.
