6x9 Persian Rugs: The First True Room Size

Somewhere around six feet wide, a rug changes its job. It stops decorating a corner and starts furnishing the room: the sofa sits on it, the conversation happens over it, the whole space takes its colors from the field. In the bazaars this is where the serious carpets begin, and the looms agree. A 6x9 is too wide for one pair of hands, so it is woven by two weavers working shoulder to shoulder, matching each other's knots row by row for the better part of a year.

That year of work is visible in every piece on this page. In an Isfahan, it shows as arabesques so fluid they seem drawn rather than knotted. In a Kashan, as the great crimson-and-navy medallion that has defined the Persian living room for four centuries. And if the room in question is a hallway to everything else in the house, the famously tight Bijar weaves in 6x9 and 7x10 are the ones we point to first.

Buying a room-size rug from photographs deserves some reassurance, so here is ours: every rug is photographed exactly as it will arrive, our people answer phone and chat at any hour, and shipping and returns are free across all 50 states and Canada. The rug does the convincing on your own floor.
