Brown Persian Rugs

Brown is the most honest color in Persian weaving. Some of it comes from the dye pot, walnut husks and pomegranate rind simmered into shades from café-au-lait to near-black chocolate, but much of it is simply the wool itself: camel-toned and deep brown fleece used exactly as the animal grew it. Undyed wool keeps its natural oils, which gives these rugs a luster and durability dyed fibers work hard to match. Every brown Persian rug here is hand-knotted and the only one of its kind.

The palette belongs above all to the tribal weavers. Persian Baluch rugs are the masters of it, camel grounds and earth-dark fields woven by nomadic hands into small rugs of remarkable character. Hamedan rugs bring the same earthiness to sturdy village weaving that shrugs off boots, paws and daily life, which is why brown rugs so often end up in the rooms a family actually lives in.

Browns build warm rooms: pair them with our beige and ivory rugs to lighten a wood-heavy space, or lean into the glow with orange and rust rugs nearby. If you are matching a rug to leather, walnut or oak, send our rug experts a photo of the room on chat, any hour of the day, and with free shipping and free returns in all 50 states and Canada, the rug auditions on your floor before anything is final.
