Every Question, Answered Honestly

How our prices stay low, how fast your rug arrives, and why buying from a direct importer is the safest way to buy a handmade rug

Free Shipping: All 50 States, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands & Canada  Free Returns, 31 Days  Price Beat Guarantee

How does our pricing work?

We are a direct importer. There is no middleman between the weaver and your floor, and we have cut our overhead everywhere we can, which is why the prices on this site are genuinely low rather than marked up and then discounted for show. We are a New York family in the rug trade since 1985, and every rug ships with a certificate of authenticity. Real rugs, real value. It is that simple.

Does Rugs.net price match?

Yes, and we go further than matching. Found a comparable rug for less anywhere else? Send the link to info@rugs.net and we will beat the price you found, with an additional discount on top. No questions asked, no hoops. We are online shoppers ourselves, and we treat you the way we want to be treated.

Shipping and delivery

Shipping is free to all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and Canada. That includes oversize and palace size rugs that weigh over 150 pounds and would ship as freight with a surcharge anywhere else. With us, free means free, at any size and any weight.

Order before 2 PM EST on a weekday and your rug ships the same day by UPS or FedEx. Across the Northeast, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine, our own drivers deliver guaranteed within 24 to 48 hours for weekday orders placed by 2 PM EST. Weekend orders ship the next business day. Our standard is personal: we ring the bell and hand you your rug, never curbside, with a drop-off at the door or garage only if you request it.

Prefer the rug carried into your home and set in place in the room? White-glove delivery is available by appointment, arranged with us in advance. For destinations outside our free zone, contact us and we will quote the best rate we can.

Returns and refunds

Free returns for 31 days. No restocking fee, no return shipping fee, and a full refund. Love it or return it. Try the rug in your own room, in your own light, and if it is not right, send it back, and yes, we pick up the big ones too. If we ever make a mistake on our end, you get a full refund plus a discount on your next order. No questions asked.

Why buy from Rugs.net?

We work directly with master weavers and trusted merchants across the weaving world, which gives you an exceptional selection of genuine handmade rugs at direct-import prices. Our mission is old-fashioned rug knowledge combined with the convenience of modern online shopping: more choice, honest descriptions, and the lowest prices we can offer. Every rug is hand-knotted, one of a kind, and documented with a certificate of authenticity. And our customers say it better than we can, five stars on Google, every single review.

What payment methods are accepted?

All major credit cards, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover, as well as PayPal.

Is buying online safe? What about my personal data?

Completely. Checkout runs over an encrypted, secure connection, and your payment details are processed by the payment provider, we never even see your card information. Your personal data is nobody's business but yours. We shop online too, and we protect your information the way we expect ours to be protected.

Can shipments be combined to the same address?

Usually not, because each rug is individually pre-packaged, insured, and ready for shipment, sometimes from different warehouse locations. If you purchase several rugs at once, we will do our best to ship them together.

What if I need to delay my order?

No problem. Email info@rugs.net or call or text (855) 576-7705 and we will hold the shipment and deliver whenever suits you.

What condition are the rugs in?

Nearly all of our rugs are new and in excellent condition unless stated otherwise. Antique and vintage rugs may show honest age, and where a repair is substantial we disclose it in the description; a proper repair does not devalue an old rug, and a fine antique often carries more value than a new rug of the same type. There are no holes, stains, or odors in any rug we sell, and every rug is professionally cleaned before it ships. Remember that no handmade rug is machine-perfect, and that is exactly the point.

Are all rugs perfectly symmetrical?

No, and you would not want them to be. Tribal and village rugs in particular are woven from skill and imagination rather than a printed graph, so small irregularities in shape and drawing are natural. Collectors call them perfect imperfections: the signature of a human hand, and part of what makes each rug one of a kind.

I am looking for a specific rug. Can you help?

Gladly. Tell us what you are after, or send a photo of a rug you saw elsewhere, and we will point you to the right page or pull the same or a similar rug in your size from our inventory. Send a photo of your room on chat or WhatsApp any hour and we will match options to it.

Should I use a rug pad, and do you sell them?

Honestly? Probably not, and yes we sell them anyway. A pad does one thing reliably: it stops a rug from slipping. A large rug with furniture on it is going nowhere, and many of our handmade rugs have leather edging on the back that adds natural grip and keeps the edges flat. Our advice is to buy the rug you love, live with it for a day or two, and only buy a pad if it actually slips, typically small rugs on polished floors, runners in busy hallways, or a rug laid over carpet. If you do need one, choose a breathable felt or natural rubber pad, which we sell, rather than thick synthetic foam. We wrote the full no-upsell truth in Do You Really Need a Rug Pad?

How do I maintain and clean my rug?

Normal care, regular gentle vacuuming, is enough for everyday maintenance. Tough stains should be treated according to the rug's material, and for heavily soiled rugs we recommend professional cleaning. Unsure about a specific spill? Message us and we will tell you exactly what to do.

Do the photos show the true colors?

Our photos are shot to represent each rug's colors as faithfully as possible, and they come very close. Every monitor is calibrated a little differently, though, which is one more reason the 31-day free return exists: judge the rug in your own room, in your own light.

How do I know I am making the right decision buying online?

Read the description, ask us anything, and then relax, because the risk is ours, not yours. Love it or return it: free returns for 31 days, full refund. Buying from home means seeing the rug with your own furniture and light, which no showroom can offer.

I like a rug but need a different size. What is available?

Contact us with the rug and the size you need. Because every handmade rug is one of a kind, exact duplicates in another size are rare, but our inventory is deep and we will suggest the closest matches in design, color, and quality.

Why do some rugs show fading or color variation?

Gentle variation in color, called abrash, is common in older and tribal rugs and is prized rather than penalized. A tribal rug can take months to weave, and wool dyed in separate batches along the way will differ in shade slightly. Sunlight and washing soften colors further over the years. These shifts are part of a handmade rug's character and its history.
