Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Rugs.net ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you visit our website, make a purchase, or communicate with us. Rugs.net is operated by a family business headquartered at 371 South Main St., Freeport, NY 11520, United States. Our online store runs on the BigCommerce platform.
Information we collect
Device information. When you visit the site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including your web browser, IP address, time zone, general location, and some of the cookies installed on your device. As you browse, we collect information about the pages and products you view, the websites or search terms that referred you to us, and how you interact with the site. We collect this through cookies, log files, and pixels and similar tags.
Order information. When you make or attempt a purchase, we collect your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, phone number, and payment details. Payment card details are processed by our payment processors over an encrypted connection; we do not see or store your full card number.
Communications. When you contact us by email, phone, text message, live chat, or WhatsApp, we collect the contact details you provide and the content of the communication, including photos of rooms or rugs you send us so we can help you.
How we use your information
We use order information to fulfill orders placed through the site, including processing payment, arranging shipping and delivery (including delivery by our own drivers), issuing invoices and order confirmations, providing certificates of authenticity, and handling returns and refunds. We also use it to communicate with you, screen orders for risk or fraud, and, in line with your preferences, send you information or marketing about our rugs. We use device information to protect against fraud, to understand how customers use the site so we can improve it, and to measure the performance of our marketing.
Who we share information with
We share personal information with service providers who help us run the business: BigCommerce, which hosts our online store; payment processors that handle your payment; shipping carriers such as UPS and FedEx and, for regional deliveries, our own delivery team; email and messaging providers we use to communicate with you; and analytics and advertising partners, including Google (Analytics and Ads), Microsoft (advertising and the Clarity analytics tool, which helps us understand how visitors use our pages), and Meta (Facebook and Instagram). If you chat with us on WhatsApp, that conversation is also subject to WhatsApp's own terms and privacy policy.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Like most online stores, our use of advertising cookies and pixels may be considered "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some state privacy laws, and you can opt out as described below. We may also disclose information to comply with applicable laws, respond to lawful requests, or protect our rights.
Cookies, tracking, and your choices
Cookies are small data files placed on your device. We use them to keep your cart working, remember preferences, measure site performance, and support advertising. You can control or delete cookies in your browser settings; more information is available at allaboutcookies.org. Disabling cookies may affect parts of the site such as the shopping cart.
You can opt out of targeted advertising through Facebook ad settings, Google ad settings, and the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out portal at optout.aboutads.info.
Where required by law, we honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a request to opt out of the sharing of personal information for targeted advertising.
Text messages and marketing emails
If you text us or agree to receive text messages, we may reply and send order-related messages to that number; message and data rates may apply, and you can stop at any time by replying STOP or telling us. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in the email or by contacting us. We will still send transactional messages about your order.
Your US state privacy rights
Depending on where you live, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, and a growing number of other states, you may have the right to know what personal information we have collected about you, to access it, to correct it, to delete it, to receive a portable copy, and to opt out of targeted advertising or the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. California residents also have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising their privacy rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@rugs.net or call or text (855) 576-7705 with your request. We will verify your identity, respond within the time required by your state's law, and will not charge you for making a request. You may also use an authorized agent where your state's law provides for one.
Visitors from Europe and Canada
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal information to fulfill contracts with you (for example, an order) and to pursue the legitimate business interests described above, and you have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, and objection, as well as the right to complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in Canada, you have comparable rights of access and correction under Canadian privacy law. In all cases, please note that your information is processed in the United States, and we ship to Canada, so information may be transferred across borders. Contact us using the details below to exercise any of these rights.
Data retention and security
We keep order information for our records, including for tax, accounting, warranty, and certificate purposes, unless and until you ask us to delete it and no legal obligation requires us to keep it. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted connections for checkout, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Children
Our site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting. There is no common standard for interpreting these signals, so our site does not respond to them; however, as noted above, we honor the Global Privacy Control signal where the law requires it, and you can always use the opt-out choices described in this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The effective date at the top shows when it was last revised, and the current version will always be posted on this page.
