Situated in north-west Persia close to the city of Kashan, it is probable that many of the Qum weavers came from Kashan since the style and quality of Qum rugs are close to those of Kashan, and there is a similar preference for rugs entirely piled in silk. Certainly the first Qum weavings seen on the market today do not tend to be much older than the late-1940s, and in style they tend to favor tight all-over floral patterns.
