This magnificent vintage Persian Kashan rug represents the very pinnacle of traditional hand-knotted craftsmanship. Woven entirely by hand using the finest hand-spun wool pile on a sturdy cotton foundation, every inch of this extraordinary piece reflects the meticulous skill and artistic devotion that has defined Kashan weaving for centuries. Measuring a generous 8'1" × 11'8", it commands any room with quiet authority, a rare fusion of museum-worthy artistry and timeless interior elegance. The pile is lush, dense, and even throughout, with no repairs, no restoration, and no compromise. This is a rug that does not merely decorate a room. It defines it.

Pattern & Motifs

The field is adorned with a breathtaking allover floral composition, known in Persian rug tradition as the Islimi design, an endlessly flowing arrangement of curvilinear vines, stems, and tendrils that weave seamlessly across the entire surface without a single point of visual interruption. Anchoring the composition at rhythmic intervals are exquisitely rendered Shah Abbasi palmettes, the iconic multi-layered blooms that have symbolized Persian royal artistry since the Safavid dynasty. These are interspersed with delicate star-shaped rosettes, multi-petaled open blossoms, crescent-shaped leaves, and refined split-leaf arabesques, each element drawn with extraordinary precision and balance. The allover layout creates a mesmerizing sense of infinite depth and movement, as though the rug itself is a living garden caught in full bloom. The main border presents a bold and stately procession of large scrolling floral medallions set within sweeping vine work, flanked on both sides by refined ivory guard borders bearing smaller reciprocating floral and vine motifs that frame the entire composition with graceful symmetry.

Colors

The color palette of this rug is sophisticated, layered, and extraordinarily well-harmonized, a testament to the master dyer's art working in concert with the master weaver's hand.

The steel blue dominates the entire central field, enveloping the allover floral design in a tone that is at once serene and commanding. This is not a flat, uniform blue. It carries the beautiful natural quality known as abrash, a subtle organic variation in tone that moves across the field like the shifting light on still water. In certain areas the blue deepens toward a smoky slate, while in others it softens to a luminous powder blue, lending the rug a painterly, atmospheric quality that no machine-made piece could ever replicate. This tonal variation is not a flaw. It is the unmistakable signature of authentically hand-dyed, hand-knotted wool, deeply prized by collectors and design connoisseurs alike.

The navy blue appears with rich intensity in the main border, creating a dramatic and luxurious frame around the lighter field. It also punctuates the field itself through the darkly outlined vines, leaf veins, and flower contours, providing the crisp graphic definition that gives the allover pattern its remarkable clarity and depth.

Ivory and cream flow generously throughout both the field and the border, appearing in the petals of the large open blossoms, the bodies of the Shah Abbasi palmettes, and the guard borders on either side of the main border. These warm, luminous tones provide a radiant contrast against both the steel blue field and the navy border, lifting the overall palette and preventing it from reading as heavy or dark.

Brick red and deep crimson are woven with confident precision into the floral motifs across the field and border alike, appearing in the centers of rosettes, the inner petals of palmettes, and the curling tips of arabesques. This red is neither aggressive nor muted. It is perfectly calibrated to add warmth and vitality to the composition without disrupting its aristocratic calm.

Soft gold and warm amber appear as delicate accents threaded through the palmette centers, leaf highlights, and selected floral cores, catching light with a quiet brilliance that adds a jewel-like quality to the overall design. These golden notes tie the palette together, bridging the cool blues and the warm reds with an effortless refinement.
