The Bijar "Iron Rug" Heritage

Originating from the Kurdish town of Bijar in Northwest Persia, these rugs are legendary for their heavy, durable construction. Using a unique "wet-weaving" technique, artisans beat the weft threads down so tightly that the pile becomes incredibly dense and stiff. This creates a textile that is not only extraordinarily heavy but also capable of lasting for generations under heavy use.

A Tapestry of Colors

The palette of this Bijar is both regal and warm, utilizing rich, saturated tones that have become more lustrous over time:

  • The Field: A deep, dark brick red serves as the primary canvas for the midfield. This isn't a flat red, but a complex, tonal hue that shifts from earthy terracotta to a deeper madder root.

  • The Borders: The primary border is grounded in a sophisticated midnight navy, providing a bold, dark contrast that frames the warmth of the interior.

  • Accents: Splashes of ivory and soft cream are used strategically to highlight the floral motifs, while secondary notes of sage green, azure blue, and dusty rose breathe life into the intricate vines and blossoms.

Intricate Pattern & Motifs

Moving away from the traditional central medallion, this piece features an all-over "Mina Khani" or "Hati" inspired pattern.

  • The Midfield: The field is an endlessly repeating lattice of stylized rosettes and interconnected floral diamonds. Tiny, four-petaled flowers in ivory and blue act as "stars" within the darker brick-red background, creating a shimmering effect across the rug’s surface.

  • The Borders: The main border is a work of art in itself, featuring large, scrolling Shah Abbasi palmettes and sweeping "S" curves that represent eternal movement. These are flanked by multiple "guard borders" decorated with delicate "meander" vines and alternating floral buds.

Texture and Presence

Every inch of this Persian Bijar 8 x 11'5 rug feels substantial. The wool is high-quality and resilient, with a low-to-medium pile that showcases the crispness of the knotting. Whether viewed from an angle or directly from above, the color variations (known as abrash) add a beautiful, hand-made depth that synthetic rugs simply cannot replicate.

We are pleased to offer free shipping and free returns in all 50 states within the USA, including Hawaii and Alaska. For our Canadian customers, we charge a flat fee of $50. All rugs are shipped the next business day after your order is placed.

Once your rug is shipped, we will email you the tracking number along with an estimated arrival time.

Please note that any country outside of the U.S. might charge you import taxes.

Returns Policy

To facilitate a return, contact our Customer Service team via email at info@rugs.net with your order number to request a shipping label(s) for your item(s). Purchased from Rugs.net policy can be refunded within 30 days. If 30 days have gone by since your purchase, we are unable to offer you a refund or exchange. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must be returned in like kind packaging.

Before we send out your item we take pictures for future references.

  2. no dirt or grass
  3. no signs of wear, washing, or improper care
  4. no damage or stains

After returned item, management will inspect your item. We will send you an email notifying you that we have received your item. In addition, we will also inform you of the approval or rejection of your refund. If approved, then your refund will surely be processed to your original payment method, within 2-5 business days. Returned Items most be in original or like-kind packaging.

Processing time: please give us up to five business days to process your return, and an additional 2-3 business to receive your money back. If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account again. Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted. Next contact your bank. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted.

We will issue a return shipping label, you just need to drop off the rug at UPS or FedEx. You also have the option to have the package picked up from your home.
