Please note that pure silk rugs are notoriously difficult to photograph accurately. The extreme luminosity of silk and the way it catches and reflects light differently at every angle means the colors can shift noticeably between photos, and the overall tone can read cooler, warmer, lighter, or darker depending on lighting and camera rendering. In person this rug has a luminous silvery quality across the ivory field with rich copper and burgundy accents that simply cannot be captured in a still image. Please refer to the detail photographs and video for the most accurate representation possible of the colors and the shimmer of the silk.

12x18 Authentic Turkish Silk Rug | Hereke Design | Pure Silk on Silk | 780 KPSI | Museum Quality | Collectors Piece

This is an exceptional 12x18 authentic Turkish oriental rug in brand new, never-used condition, hand-knotted in pure silk on a pure silk foundation at an extraordinary 780 to 800 knots per square inch. Woven in the classical Hereke design tradition, this piece represents the absolute pinnacle of Turkish silk rug production and sits comfortably in museum and gallery quality territory. The ivory field reads with a luminous silvery quality when the light catches it, framed by a copper main border and accented throughout with burgundy, sage green, sky blue, and soft pink highlights. The oversized 12x18 format is a rare and trophy room size ideally scaled for grand living rooms, mansion dining rooms, ballrooms, large conference rooms, palace foyers, and estate great rooms where this piece can anchor the entire space.

Design and Motifs

The composition is a classical Hereke design built around a concentric central medallion composed of multiple layered rings. At the very heart sits an ivory cartouche carrying a sky blue star rosette with burgundy outlines, surrounded by a burgundy radial ring, then a caramel band, and then a wider ivory cartouche that fans outward in a scalloped silhouette of soft pink and copper scalloped lobes. The surrounding field is covered edge to edge in one of the most intricate floral vocabularies in Turkish weaving, with palmettes, rosettes, lotus blossoms, curling leaves, and delicate arabesque vines woven in such fine detail that at 780 to 800 knots per square inch the design reads almost like a painting. Four copper corner spandrels anchor the field, each carrying ivory cartouche medallions with grey-blue diamond centers, and the entire rug is framed by a multi-layered copper main border carrying alternating cartouche medallions in sage, burgundy, and ivory, flanked by ivory guard stripes that carry their own continuous floral scroll.

Colors and Placement

The ivory field is the visual anchor of the rug, and the density of the black and charcoal outline work across the floral tracery gives the whole ground a luminous silvery taupe quality from a distance that is completely unique to fine Turkish silk. Copper and warm caramel dominate the corner spandrels and the main border, with sage green, burgundy, and sky blue punctuating the medallions and cartouches, and soft pink, pale gold, and olive highlights scattered throughout the floral vocabulary to give the rug tremendous chromatic depth. The overall palette reads as warm, neutral, and quietly luxurious, which is exactly why Hereke design rugs have been the first choice for grand interiors for more than a century. This rug pairs beautifully with polished wood floors, cream and linen upholstery, brass and gold accent pieces, marble surfaces, and both traditional and contemporary interiors. It is equally at home in a formal mansion setting and in a modern space that wants one extraordinary statement piece with unmistakable craftsmanship.

Turkish Silk Rugs and Construction

Hereke is the most famous silk weaving center in Turkey, a coastal town on the Sea of Marmara where the imperial Ottoman court workshops produced the finest silk rugs in the world from the mid-nineteenth century onward. The Hereke design vocabulary, including the concentric medallion, copper corner spandrels, and dense all-over floral tracery, has become the reference point for fine Turkish silk weaving, and high-grade workshops throughout Turkey continue to produce pieces in this tradition. Pure silk on silk construction means the warp, the weft, and the pile are all spun from silk, which is what allows weavers to tie knots this fine and this clean. At 780 to 800 knots per square inch this rug is near the absolute upper limit of what hand weaving can achieve, and the 0.2 inch pile height is deliberately kept very thin so that every detail of the design reads sharply from across the room. A brand new pure silk Turkish rug in the oversized 12x18 trophy room format is a serious collector piece and a genuine museum-quality investment.
