This 2'5 x 4 Persian Darjazin rug is a finely handwoven village piece showcasing a rich crimson field anchored by a balanced floral medallion composition. Woven in western Iran, Darjazin rugs are prized for their compact size, strong structure, and expressive floral layouts, making them ideal accent pieces for intimate interiors.

Design and Motifs

The field centers around a stylized floral medallion framed by mirrored vine scrolls, rosettes, and branching botanical elements. The motifs are arranged symmetrically, creating visual balance while maintaining the spontaneous charm associated with village weaving traditions. Delicate blossoms and hooked floral forms add depth and movement across the field.

Border and Framing

A deep burgundy border encloses the composition, filled with continuous floral repeats and small palmettes. Inner and outer guard borders feature finely articulated vine work, offering a refined transition between the bold central field and the darker outer frame.

Colors and Their Placement

The dominant crimson red field provides a saturated foundation for the design. Ivory and soft pink highlights define floral details, while sky blue and forest green introduce contrast and freshness. Accents of olive green, cocoa brown, charcoal, and subtle antique gold tones add warmth and visual complexity throughout the rug.

Materials and Craftsmanship

Hand-knotted using high-quality wool on a traditional foundation, this Darjazin rug displays a dense, resilient weave suited for both decorative and functional use. The wool has a naturally lustrous surface, allowing the colors to appear rich and well-defined while maintaining durability.
The fringes on one side of the rug are intentionally tucked, a practice commonly seen in tribal and village rugs. This is a traditional finishing method used by weavers and is characteristic of authentic tribal production, not a default or later alteration.

Workshop History

Darjazin rugs originate from village workshops in the Hamadan region of Iran. These weavings are known for their expressive floral patterns, compact formats, and dependable construction, reflecting generations of regional craftsmanship rather than formal workshop production.
