6'9 x 10'1 Fine Persian Nain 6La Habibian Rug | Teal and Ivory Medallion | Wool and Silk

This exceptional hand-knotted Persian Nain rug measures 6'9 x 10'1 and is signed by the Habibian workshop, one of the most respected names in Nain rug production. Woven in the 6La grade, this piece represents fine Nain craftsmanship with a wool and silk pile that gives the surface a characteristic depth and luminosity. The composition features a classic Persian medallion layout set against a rich, saturated deep teal field, a colorway that is distinctly uncommon in Nain production and makes this piece immediately distinctive among collectors and interior designers alike. The rug is in excellent, never-used condition and carries all the refinement and precision that the Habibian name guarantees.

Design and Motifs

The field of this rug is dominated by a deep teal ground covered in a continuously flowing arabesque of ivory scrolling vines, palmette rosettes, lancet leaves, and detailed floral clusters. At the center sits a large multi-pointed star medallion in warm ivory and soft grey, its lobed and scalloped outline filled with intricate floral arabesque work in blue, cream, and caramel. Matching ivory corner spandrels complete the classic Persian medallion composition and carry the same dense floral vine work as the field. The wide ivory main border is filled with a rich scrolling floral vine carrying large palmettes and rosettes in light blue, caramel, burgundy, and grey. Narrow guard borders in caramel and light blue frame the main border on both sides, completing a layered border system of exceptional quality and balance.

Colors and Placement

The dominant color is a deep, jewel-toned teal that covers the majority of the field and gives the rug its commanding presence. This teal sits between blue and green and has a rich, saturated quality that photographs strikingly and reads as a statement color in any room. Against this ground, the ivory vine work and floral motifs glow with clarity, and the silk highlights add a subtle shimmer that shifts as light moves across the surface. Light blue and soft grey appear throughout the floral details, caramel and beige warm the border and spandrel areas, and touches of burgundy red and dark navy add accent depth. At 6'9 x 10'1 this rug suits a large living room, a formal dining room, or a master bedroom. The teal and ivory palette works particularly well with white walls, light wood floors, brass or gold hardware, and both contemporary and transitional furnishings.

Origin and Construction

Nain is a city in Isfahan province in central Iran that rose to prominence as a center of fine rug weaving in the twentieth century. The Habibian family is one of the most celebrated weaving dynasties in Nain, known for producing rugs of exceptional knot density, precise design execution, and consistent quality across generations. The designation 6La refers to the number of threads per knot bundle, indicating a fine grade of construction that allows for greater design detail and a denser, more refined surface than coarser Nain grades. The wool and silk pile combination is characteristic of quality Nain production, with the silk content sharpening motif outlines and adding a natural luster to the surface. The cotton foundation provides dimensional stability and keeps the rug flat over time. The master weaver's signature, woven into the upper border in Persian script, authenticates this piece as a genuine Habibian production.
