The 6'8" x 10' Persian Qum rug made from Kork wool is a testament to the rich heritage and meticulous craftsmanship of Persian rug weaving. Originating from the city of Qum, this rug embodies the finest qualities of Persian rugs, offering both aesthetic beauty and practical durability. This detailed description aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of this exquisite piece, highlighting its design elements, materials, craftsmanship, and ideal placement within the home.

Central Field Design

The central field of this Persian Qum rug is a masterpiece of design, featuring a lattice of diamond-shaped medallions. Each medallion is filled with intricate floral patterns, with no two diamonds exactly alike. This variation in design within a structured pattern is a hallmark of Persian rug artistry, showcasing the weavers' creativity and attention to detail.

The primary color of the central field is a deep, rich red, symbolizing joy and happiness in Persian culture. This vibrant background provides a striking contrast to the lighter shades of beige and green that form the floral and geometric motifs. The occasional use of blue and black adds depth and complexity, creating a harmonious balance of colors.

Border Design

The border of the rug is an intricate work of art in itself. The primary border is wide and features large floral rosettes interconnected by a flowing vine pattern. These rosettes are woven in shades of white, blue, and green, standing out beautifully against the red background. The primary border is flanked by several narrower guard borders, each with its own unique design.

The guard borders typically feature smaller floral and geometric motifs, adding layers of detail and complexity. The use of multiple borders not only frames the central field but also enhances the overall visual impact of the rug.

Kork Wool

This Persian Qum rug is made from Kork wool, a high-quality material derived from the neck and underbelly of sheep. Kork wool is prized for its softness, luster, and durability, making it an ideal material for fine rugs. The use of Kork wool in this rug ensures a soft, luxurious feel underfoot, while also providing the strength needed to withstand years of use.

Hand-Knotted Technique

The rug is hand-knotted using traditional Persian techniques, with a knot density that reflects the skill of its weavers. High knot density is a characteristic feature of Persian Qum rugs, contributing to their durability and intricate design. Each knot is tied by hand, a process that can take months to complete, depending on the size and complexity of the rug.

Dyeing Process

The colors in this rug are achieved using natural dyes, a traditional practice in Persian rug weaving. Natural dyes not only produce rich, vibrant colors but also ensure that the rug ages gracefully, with the colors developing a beautiful patina over time. The dyeing process involves extracting pigments from plants, minerals, and insects, and carefully applying them to the wool to achieve the desired hues.
