7'3 x 10'5 Persian Nain 6 LA Habibian Wool and Silk Rug with Animals and Birds

This 7'3 x 10'5 Persian Nain 6 LA Habibian wool and silk rug is one of the most extraordinary examples of Iranian weaving available on the market today. Produced by the legendary Habibian family workshop in Nain, Iran, this rug represents the absolute pinnacle of the 6 LA grade, denoting six threads per knot, one of the finest specifications in all of Nain production. With a knot density of 650 to 700 KPSI, a pure silk foundation, and a luxuriously soft wool and silk pile, this is a piece of exceptional rarity and collector-grade quality. It is in brand new, never used condition, preserving every detail of its original magnificence exactly as it left the hands of its master weavers.

Design and Motifs

What sets this rug apart from virtually all other Nain rugs is its rare and breathtaking figurative design. While most Nain rugs feature purely floral and arabesque compositions, this Habibian piece depicts a living paradise garden teeming with animals and birds, including graceful cranes and herons in flight, perching songbirds, deer and gazelles bounding through flowering thickets, rabbits nestled among the blossoms, and horses moving through an enchanted landscape. All of these figures are woven into an all-over composition of spiraling vines, large palmettes, multi-petaled rosettes, lotus blossoms, and arabesques that cover every inch of the field in extraordinary density. A grand central medallion anchors the composition, radiating outward with ivory floral tracery against the deep navy ground. The ivory main border continues the garden theme with dense floral sprays, additional birds, and palmette forms enclosed by delicate scrolling guard stripes on either side.

Colors and Placement

The field of this rug is a deep, rich midnight navy blue, almost approaching indigo, which provides a dramatic and luxurious backdrop for all of the ivory, cream, and multi-toned floral and figural work that covers it. The central medallion is rendered in warm ivory and cream tones with soft blue interior detailing, creating a glowing focal point that draws the eye immediately upon entering a room. Throughout the field, the floral vines and animal figures are woven in ivory and cream as the primary highlight color, accented by cornflower blue, steel blue, warm beige and taupe, pale gold, soft sage green, and occasional touches of blush pink. The birds appear in ivory, pale gray, and soft blue, while the animals including the deer, rabbits, and horses are rendered in warm ivory and taupe tones that stand beautifully against the dark ground. The main border is ivory-ground, which frames the dark navy field with a luminous contrast, and is filled with navy blue floral work that ties the border and field together seamlessly. The overall palette is sophisticated, cool-toned, and timeless, suited to both traditional interiors and contemporary spaces that benefit from a dramatic statement piece.

Nain 6 LA Rugs

Nain is a city in Isfahan Province in central Iran, long regarded as one of the most prestigious centers of fine Persian rug weaving. The Habibian family is among the most celebrated and sought-after workshops in Nain, known for producing rugs of exceptional fineness, artistic ambition, and lasting value. The 6 LA designation refers to the thread count used in the foundation and determines the maximum knot density achievable. At 650 to 700 KPSI, this rug pushes that specification to its absolute limit, resulting in a surface of extraordinary smoothness and detail resolution. The foundation is pure silk for maximum strength and fineness, and the pile combines high-quality wool with silk to produce a surface that is both lustrous and durable. Every knot was tied by hand by skilled artisans, and the result is a rug that is as much a work of art as it is a functional textile. This piece is in brand new, never used condition and represents an investment in beauty that will endure for generations.
