This exceptional Isfahan rug embodies the refined elegance that made the city famous during the Safavid dynasty where some of the most admired court weavings originated. Woven in the old, high-end traditional technique, this piece showcases a wool-and-silk foundation that gives its floral patterns unmatched clarity, shine, and precision. The size itself, 6'9 x 11'2, is rarely produced in authentic Isfahan weaving, making this piece particularly desirable for collectors and homeowners seeking something special.

Design & Motifs

At the heart lies a large multi-layered medallion, executed in silk highlights that bring every curve and petal to life. It blooms outward with classic Isfahan scrollwork, arabesques, and interlaced floral details symbolic of harmony and renewal.

The field is filled with intricate Shah Abbasi blossoms, palmettes, and branching vine motifs, each drawn with classic Isfahan geometry. Silk outlining gives these motifs exceptional crispness that stands apart from modern productions.

The border features a deep red floral frame, filled with scrolling vines, palmettes, and small medallion cartouches. This border composition is typical of high-tier Isfahan workshops from past decades.

Materials & Craftsmanship

This rug is woven with

  • 70% premium kork wool, known for its sheen and velvety feel

  • 30% natural silk, used for highlights in the medallion, floral motifs, and border tracery

Silk elevates the depth of the colors and reflects light beautifully as you walk around the rug. The weave density and the clarity of detail clearly place this rug in the finest tradition of earlier Isfahan masterwork, before mass-market designs became more common.

Color Placement

Royal Blue

  • Dominates the central field

  • Provides the backdrop for all floral patterns

  • Defines the primary visual character of the rug

Deep Red

  • Used in the wide outer borders

  • Hosts delicate scrolling floral motifs in contrasting tones

Ivory / Cream

  • Appears in the border transitions

  • Forms the bases of floral highlights

  • Found along the medallion perimeter

Gold & Beige Tones

  • Fill much of the medallion detailing

  • Surround the medallion in the transitional halo areas

  • Used in silk-highlighted botanical motifs

Taupe & Light Brown

  • Accentuate vines, leaves, and outline layers

  • Provide shading within palmettes and blossoms

Sky Blue & Soft Green

  • Subtle touches inside smaller petals

  • Offer contrast inside the medallion’s micro-motifs

Burgundy & Navy Accents

  • Used sparingly inside blossoms, adding dimension

  • Strengthen border symmetry and interior motif contrast

Charcoal Outlines

  • Used to sharpen the edges of floral motifs

  • Give definition to silk highlights and medallion structures

Together, these colors create a composition that shifts gracefully as light moves across the silk one of the defining signatures of true Isfahan weaving.
