9'8" x 14'7" Oriental Agra Rug, Allover Scrolling Floral, Crimson Red and Olive Green

This impressive room-size Oriental Agra rug brings together the bold coloration and grand allover floral vocabulary that made Agra one of the most celebrated rug weaving centers in India. Hand knotted with a 100% wool pile on a cotton foundation, this rug carries the characteristic qualities of the Agra tradition: an open scrolling field without a central medallion, deeply saturated natural dye colors, and a generously proportioned border that frames the composition with equal weight. At nearly 10 by 15 feet, it is a true room-defining piece suited for the largest living and dining spaces. This rug is in excellent condition and has never been used.

Design and Motifs

The design is a classic Agra allover composition, presenting a continuous symmetrical lattice of scrolling vines that fills the entire crimson field without a medallion or open ground. Emerging from the vine structure are large ivory and gold palmettes, full-blown lotus blossoms, deeply serrated acanthus leaves in ivory and olive, and distinctive vase-shaped ivory pendants that are a hallmark of the Agra vocabulary.
