Overhead view of a 9'7" x 13'8" Persian Bijar Rug, displaying an intricate central medallion and a complex border with deep red and navy blue huesNote: The waves you see on the rug will flatten out once the rug is laid out for a few days. They occure because we kept the rug folded.

This exquisite 9'7" x 13'8" Persian Bijar Rug is a testament to the time-honored traditions of Persian weaving. Bijar rugs, often referred to as the "Iron Rugs of Persia," are renowned for their durability and weight, attributed to the unique weft-wrapping technique that results in a dense, heavy weave. This particular piece showcases a complex arrangement of floral motifs, interlocking patterns, and a medley of vibrant hues against a rich, deep background. The central diamond medallion, a hallmark of Persian design, is meticulously detailed, drawing the eye inward to the intricate artistry.

The border is equally impressive, featuring an elaborate series of guard and main bands filled with rosettes, vine scrolls, and stylized foliage. The rug's color palette is a sophisticated blend of deep reds, indigo, ivory, and accents of olive and gold, which bring a sense of warmth and opulence to any space. Hand-knotted from the finest wool, the rug's pile is plush and inviting, offering both comfort and elegance. The edges are finished with a tight selvedge and the fringes at the ends are short, adding to its refined appearance.

Bijar rugs, originating from the town of Bijar in Kurdistan, Iran, are notable for their heavy wool foundation, which allows them to lie flat and resist folding or wrinkling. The combination of Kurdish and Persian weaving techniques results in a dense construction that can withstand high-traffic areas, making them a perfect centerpiece for a living room, dining room, or office.
