This small Ardebil rug began life as a workshop sample, woven to show buyers exactly how the full-size carpet would look before they committed to a large order. Pieces like this are no longer produced, which has quietly turned them into scarce collectibles in their own right. It is a fully hand-knotted Persian rug in miniature, carrying every border, medallion, and corner motif of its full-size counterpart.

Design and Motifs

At the center sits a stepped geometric medallion that layers a coral diamond over a sage green frame and a butter yellow core, finished with a navy eight-pointed star and serrated leaf forms. The powder blue field around it is scattered with stylized tribal figures, including small four-legged animals and birds that give the piece its village character. A royal blue main border carries interlaced gold trefoils, framed by ivory guard stripes of tiny geometric repeats.

Colors and Placement

The palette is bright and cheerful, built on a powder blue ground with coral, butter yellow, sage green, navy, and ivory worked through the design. At roughly 1'3" x 2', it suits a spot that calls for a small accent, such as a bedside, an entry, a bathroom, or a bookshelf, and it also reads beautifully framed or laid over a larger rug as a layered accent.

Origin and Construction

Ardebil lies in the far northwest of Persia, a region long known for boldly colored, geometric village weaving, and this sample carries those traditions in a hand-knotted wool and silk pile on a cotton foundation. The knotting stays even and the design holds crisp right down to the smallest motif, a testament to the weaver's skill at this reduced scale.
