This 10 x 13 Patina Vintage Persian Tabriz Rug represents one of the most beloved weaving traditions of Northwest Iran. Woven in the city of Tabriz, one of the oldest carpet-weaving centers in the world, this piece reflects both historic artistry and the beauty that comes with age and patina. Its low pile, aged surface, and worn-down sections give it authenticity and undeniable vintage character features highly prized by collectors and interior designers.

Design and Motifs

The rug centers around a classic Tabriz medallion, surrounded by ornate curvilinear botanical motifs. The medallion itself features layers of floral arabesques, rosettes, palmettes, and cloudband-inspired curls, arranged symmetrically to draw the eye inward. The surrounding field continues in a rich floral layout that flows outward with scrolling vines, balanced blossoms, and delicately placed leaves. This type of detailing is typical of master workshops in Tabriz, where even older village pieces were executed with extraordinary precision.

Patterns

The field is a deep, saturated crimson red, creating a dramatic background for the navy-blue and cream detailing. The corner spandrels in cream create strong contrast, visually lifting the center medallion and highlighting the complex floral work.
The border system consists of a traditional Tabriz triple border:

  • A thick navy-blue main border with stylized palmettes and angular vine motifs

  • Inner and outer guard borders in softer tones featuring repeating rosettes and angular vine elements

This pattern layout brings balance and regal proportions to the rug.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Woven with hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, this rug shows the excellent durability associated with Tabriz rugs. The wool threads have softened beautifully with time, allowing the field and borders to blend together with the subtle, velvety look only vintage Persian rugs acquire.

The low pile and worn-down areas reflect natural aging from decades of use. These characteristics are not defects they are evidence of authenticity, and collectors seek them for the depth, character, and texture they create. The patina gives the rug a soft matte appearance, diffusing the colors in a warm, inviting way.

Important Note on Condition

This rug has naturally developed wear, including low pile and visible wear spots, all of which have been documented clearly in photographs and video. The structure remains strong and suitable for everyday use, and the wear contributes significantly to its vintage beauty.
