4'4" x 6'6" Persian Qum Pure Silk Rug | Signed Kabiri | Medallion Floral

This extraordinary hand-knotted Persian Qum rug measures 4'4" x 6'6" and is woven entirely from pure silk in both its foundation and pile, placing it among the most technically demanding and visually refined productions in the world of Oriental rugs. It bears the woven signature of the Kabiri workshop, one of the most respected names in Qum weaving, and is knotted at approximately 700 knots per square inch. At this density, the drawing throughout the rug achieves a painterly clarity and fineness of line that is simply not possible at lower knot counts. The rug is in excellent condition and has never been used, retaining its full pile depth, original luster, and complete structural integrity.

Design and Motifs

The design centers on a large, elaborate medallion composed of concentric layers of scrolling floral forms, palmettes, and cloud-band tendrils radiating outward from a small circular center rosette. The medallion expands through teal, soft pink, and ivory tones, creating a glowing light-filled core against the deep navy field. The surrounding field is densely filled with an all-over arabesque of sinuous vines, large chrysanthemum-style blossoms, lotus palmettes, and spiral buds, each rendered with the crisp fine-line precision that only high-KPSI silk weaving makes possible. The composition is mirrored symmetrically on all four axes, a hallmark of classical Qum design discipline. The rug is enclosed by a substantial multi-border system: the wide main border features a rose pink ground filled with large-scale scrolling floral sprays and palmette clusters in golden yellow, ivory, and teal, flanked by teal guard borders carrying continuous arabesque vine scrolls in bright golden yellow. Additional narrow filler borders with geometric and floral repeat elements complete the layered framing, and the corners are fully mitered so the border design continues without interruption on all four sides.

Colors and Placement

The dominant field color is a rich, saturated navy blue that serves as a dramatic backdrop for the intricate ivory and golden yellow floral network covering the entire surface. The central medallion introduces teal as its primary ground color, surrounded by concentric rings of soft blush pink and warm ivory that draw the eye inward toward the rosette center. Golden yellow is the most pervasive accent throughout the field, outlining every vine, leaf, and blossom with warm luminosity that catches the light as viewing angles shift across the silk surface. Rose pink appears at the tips of palmettes and in the petals of larger blossoms scattered across the navy ground, providing warmth and movement against the deep field color. Light sky blue accents are embedded within individual flower heads throughout, adding coolness and tonal variation that is most visible at close range. Brown tones anchor the centers of larger blossoms and add grounding contrast to the lighter, more luminous elements around them. Ivory and cream appear throughout as highlights on petals, scrollwork edges, and floral outlines, giving the silk surface its characteristic depth and sheen. The border reverses the field color logic entirely, placing warm rose pink as the dominant ground with teal and golden yellow as the accent tones, creating a visually complementary frame that balances the dark coolness of the navy field. The overall palette is rich, jewel-toned, and layered, reading as formal and luxurious from a distance while revealing extraordinary color complexity at close range.

Qum Silk Rugs

Qum is a city in central Iran that emerged as a rug-weaving center in the twentieth century and rapidly distinguished itself through the exclusive use of pure silk and exceptionally high knot counts. Unlike older Persian weaving cities rooted in tribal or village traditions, Qum built its reputation entirely on technical refinement, and the finest signed Qum pieces are among the most sought-after collector rugs in the world. The Kabiri workshop name is well recognized in the international trade for consistent excellence, and a signed piece from this workshop carries direct provenance and a guarantee of authentic Qum origin. Both the silk warp-and-weft foundation and the silk pile contribute to the rug's structural precision and its characteristic reflective quality, which causes the colors to shift and intensify as light moves across the surface from different angles. At approximately 700 KPSI, this rug represents a genuine collector-grade example of one of the finest rug-weaving traditions in Iran.
