5' x 7'4" Master Signed Habib Persian Isfahan Rug, Kork Wool with Large Silk Highlights on a Silk Foundation

A master signed collector piece. This 5' x 7'4" Persian Isfahan carries the signature of master weaver Habib on the end panel, with the woven Iranian flag kilim bookends that mark the finest workshop output from the city. Knotted at roughly 700 knots per square inch in kork wool with substantial silk highlights on a full silk foundation, in the warm ivory and rose-garden palette that has defined Habib's reputation for decades. About twenty years old, completely unused, and held in mint condition. A piece at this construction grade rarely comes to market in this state.

Design and Motifs

The composition centers on a round lobed medallion in warm walnut and sage with a small star-rosette core, surrounded by curling vine, paired rose bouquets, and large Shah Abbasi palmettes on a warm ivory ground. Four corner spandrels mirror the medallion in matching tones and floral arrangement. The main border is the calling card here, a fully drawn rose-bouquet procession on soft peach, with open roses, buds, leaves, and small floral sprays repeating in mirrored symmetry around the entire perimeter. Inside and outside the main border, paired minor guards on ivory and walnut carry rosette and vine work, and both ends close with the green-white-red Iranian flag kilim that frames the master signature cartouche in Farsi reading اصفهان حبیب (Isfahan Habib).

Colors and Placement

The palette is warm ivory at the field, soft peach in the spandrels and border, with rose, deep wine, sage, sky blue, navy, and walnut brown carrying the floral work. Large silk passages sit raised slightly above the kork wool surface and catch light at a different angle, so the rug shifts noticeably as the light changes through the day. At 5 by 7'4 it is built to be lived with rather than walked across. It is the right scale in front of a sofa with a coffee table centered on the medallion, in a formal sitting area, in a library or study, at the foot of a king bed, or as a stretched display piece on the wall. The warm ivory and peach ground places it gracefully in cream, sage, navy, and warm wood interiors.

Origin and Construction

Isfahan has been the heart of fine Persian weaving since the Safavid court moved its workshops there in the seventeenth century, and the full story of the city, its master families, and the construction grades you'll encounter is laid out in our complete guide to Isfahan rugs. This piece is woven at the city's top construction grade. The foundation is full silk, both warp and weft, which produces the flat, even back you see in the photographs and supports roughly 700 knots per square inch without distortion. The pile is kork wool, the soft underbelly lamb wool reserved by the top Isfahan workshops, with large silk highlights worked directly into the medallion, the palmettes, and the rose cartouches in the border. For a deeper look at how wool, silk, and mixed-fiber construction differ in the hand and in the long term, our guide to handmade rug materials is the right next read. The rectangular 5x7 format places this rug in the most collected scatter-to-accent bracket for fine signed Persian work.
