6'7" x 10'3" Hand-Knotted Persian Nain 6 La Rug, Signed by Master Habibian | Emerald Green Field with Floral Medallion | Wool and Silk Pile on Silk Foundation | 550-600 KPSI
A truly investment-grade Persian rug from one of the most celebrated master weaving houses in all of Iran, this 6'7" x 10'3" hand-knotted Nain 6 La (shesh la) carries the signature of Habibian, the workshop responsible for some of the most refined and most collected Nain carpets ever produced. Woven in central Iran in the 6 La construction (the finest Nain quality grade, indicating a six-ply warp), the rug combines a kork wool and pure silk pile on a 100% silk foundation, knotted at an exceptional 550 to 600 knots per square inch. The composition is the classical Nain idiom at its most elegant, with a deep emerald green field carrying a finely drawn ivory and pale-blue star medallion at center, framed by an all-over scrolling vine and palmette field and a wide ivory main border with the same flowing floral repeat. To learn more about why Nain rugs are widely considered the most refined modern Persian carpets, see our complete Persian Nain rug guide.
Design and Motifs
The composition centers on a precisely drawn star medallion in soft ivory, pale blue, sage, and tan, built up of overlapping lobed petals radiating from a small central rosette and surrounded by a halo of fine floral filigree. From the medallion outward, the rich emerald green field is carried by a continuous tracery of slender ivory and pale-blue scrolling vines bearing palmettes, lotus blossoms, leafy rosettes, and small bud forms drawn with the calm symmetry that distinguishes Nain workshop production from busier village weaving. Silk is reserved for the medallion centerpoints, the principal vines, and the finest leaf and flower outlines, where it catches light and creates the subtle shimmer that signals master-level Nain work. The wide ivory main border carries a stately repeat of large palmettes connected by curling vines and small navy and sage rosettes, framed by multiple narrow guard borders in ivory, light blue, and sage that step the eye gracefully from field to fringe.
Colors and Placement
The defining color of this rug is its remarkable emerald green field, a saturated lime-to-forest green that shifts in tone with the light: under daylight the green reads bright and almost grass-like, while under warm incandescent light it deepens toward a richer forest green with quiet teal undertones. Please note that depending on screen calibration the field may appear more teal or blue in photographs, but in person the field is clearly a green, in the emerald and lime family rather than blue. Around the green field the palette is built on warm ivory and cream borders with finely drawn navy, sky blue, sage, and small touches of soft rose and tan, giving the rug a calm, jewel-like presence that pairs beautifully with traditional, transitional, and contemporary interiors alike. At 6'7" x 10'3" the rug is sized for a wide range of rooms: a formal living room with the front legs of furniture on the rug, a primary bedroom at the foot of a queen or king bed, a study or library, a formal dining room with a 4 to 6 person table, or a generous foyer or hallway anchor in a substantial home.
Persian Nain Rugs and the Habibian Workshop
Nain is a small desert town in central Iran that began producing carpets only in the 1930s, when the local cloak-weaving industry declined and master weavers turned their fine textile skills toward rug-making, drawing on the design vocabulary of nearby Isfahan. Within a generation, Nain workshops were producing some of the finest hand-knotted carpets in the world, and the town's name became synonymous with extreme refinement, very high knot densities, and the use of silk highlights on a kork wool ground. Nain quality is graded by "La" (the number of plies in the warp): 9 La is the coarsest, while 6 La (shesh la) is the finest standard production, with 4 La reserved for the most exceptional pieces. The Habibian workshop, founded by master weaver Fatollah Habibian, is widely regarded as the single most important master weaving house in Nain history, with pieces signed Habibian commanding strong premiums in both retail and collector markets worldwide. This rug is hand-knotted using the Persian senneh asymmetric knot at approximately 575 KPSI on average across the 67 square foot surface, equivalent to roughly 5.5 million individual hand-tied knots, representing many years of work for a master weaver. Combined with the silk foundation, kork wool and silk pile, classical Nain medallion drawing, and the Habibian signature, this rug represents a genuinely collector-grade Persian carpet at a direct-importer price.
