This 7'3 x 10'7 Persian Kerman rug is an antique hand knotted piece woven in one of Iran’s most celebrated weaving centers. Known for their refined floral drawing, spacious layouts, and elegant architectural borders, Kerman rugs are prized for their decorative balance and graceful presence. The design features a large open field anchored by an elongated medallion and framed by intricate floral panels, giving the rug a stately, palace scale look that works beautifully in living rooms, dining spaces, and formal interiors.

The wool pile has developed a soft, naturally aged patina that gives the surface character and depth, creating the timeless appeal collectors look for in older Persian pieces.

Design and Motifs

The composition is centered around a classic elongated medallion filled with scrolling vines and delicate blossoms. The open field allows the central motif to breathe, while fine arabesques and floral tendrils add movement without overwhelming the design.

Corner roundels and compartment panels introduce symmetry and structure, a hallmark of Kerman workshop artistry. Every element flows smoothly from one section to the next, giving the rug an elegant and harmonious rhythm.

Border and Framing

Multiple guard borders lead into a wide main border filled with repeating floral cartouches and palmettes. The border acts like a decorative frame, enclosing the field and enhancing the architectural presence of the piece.

The layered framing adds depth and makes the rug feel substantial and well balanced from every viewing angle.

Colors and Their Placement

Brick Red dominates the field, providing warmth and richness.
Ivory and Cream define the medallion, florals, and outlines, creating contrast and clarity.
Light Sky Blue fills the decorative panels and corner roundels, offering a soft and airy balance.
Navy Blue appears in the scrollwork and detailing, adding depth and definition.
Beige and Gold tones form the borders and background elements, giving a warm neutral foundation.
Soft Sage and subtle rose accents highlight blossoms and small motifs throughout the design.

Materials and Craftsmanship

Hand knotted with high quality wool on a cotton foundation, this rug reflects the fine weaving tradition of Kerman workshops. The knots are tight and precise, allowing for crisp floral details and smooth curves.

The wool has aged beautifully, resulting in a soft handle and gentle sheen that only time can create.

Kerman Rugs

Kerman has long been recognized for producing some of the most decorative Persian rugs, often woven for large homes and formal spaces. Their refined floral compositions and balanced layouts made them favorites in both Persian and Western interiors during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Condition Note

Structurally the rug is in excellent condition with a strong foundation and secure edges.
There are minor color irregularities and one worn area consistent with age and use. These details are clearly shown in the photos and highlighted in the video. Please review the video fully to see the worn spot. The wear does not affect the structure or usability and contributes to the authentic antique character of the piece.
