Design and Motifs

This 7x10 Antique Persian Bijar Rug is a testament to the rich weaving traditions of the Kurdish Bijar region. The rug features a distinctive diamond-shaped central medallion filled with intricate floral motifs, surrounded by a densely patterned field of repeating geometric and floral designs. The corners of the rug showcase a contrasting pattern, adding a dynamic element to the overall design. The border is adorned with a series of traditional Herati motifs, enclosed within multiple guard borders that enhance the rug's visual depth.

Colors

  • Deep red (predominant background color)
  • Navy blue (used in the border and parts of the field)
  • Ivory (accents in the motifs and border)
  • Light blue (highlights within the floral patterns)
  • Green (subtle accents in the motifs)
  • Orange (details within the border and motifs)
  • Black (outlines and fine details within the patterns)

The rug's color palette is a harmonious blend of deep red, navy blue, ivory, and hints of soft green and gold. The predominant red field is enriched with navy blue medallions and motifs, while the ivory border provides a striking contrast that highlights the intricate designs. Subtle accents of green and gold throughout the rug add a touch of elegance and sophistication.

Patterns

The primary pattern of this rug is the classic Herati design, characterized by a diamond and curling leaf pattern repeated throughout the field. This pattern is known for its detailed and symmetrical arrangement, creating a sense of harmony and balance. The intricate floral motifs within the medallion and border add a layer of complexity and beauty, showcasing the weaver's skill and attention to detail.

Material and Craftsmanship

Hand-knotted using high-quality wool, this rug boasts durability and a dense, sturdy pile that is characteristic of Bijar rugs, often referred to as the "Iron Rugs of Persia." The tight weave and high knot density ensure that this rug will withstand heavy use and last for generations. The wool used in this rug is soft yet resilient, providing a comfortable underfoot experience while maintaining its shape and appearance over time.
