9' x 12' Indo Tabriz Rug | Black Allover Floral | Burgundy Border | Wool and Silk Highlights
This hand-knotted Indo Tabriz measures 9' x 12' and was woven in India in the classic Tabriz style, with a wool pile lifted by silk highlights on a cotton foundation. At approximately 240-260 knots per square inch, the drawing is crisp and detailed. It arrives in excellent, never used condition with a certificate of authenticity, and it is a strong choice among 9x12 rugs for anyone who wants a dark, formal field.
Design and Motifs
Instead of a central medallion, the field is covered edge to edge with an allover pattern of palmettes, rosettes and leafy blossoms joined by fine scrolling vines. Because nothing anchors the center, the design reads evenly from every side of the room and furniture can sit on it without hiding a focal point. A wide burgundy main border carries its own flowing floral vine, held between narrow ivory guard stripes, and the ends finish in white cotton fringe.
Black, Burgundy and Ivory
The black ground is the defining feature here, deep and even, so the blossoms seem to float on its surface. Rose and beige flowers carry most of the field, accented by sage green leaves and light brown stems. Burgundy takes over in the main border, a warm frame that keeps the black from feeling heavy, while the ivory guards draw a clean, bright line between field and border. The silk highlights catch light within the motifs and give the surface a soft sheen.
The Tabriz Tradition, Woven in India
Tabriz in northwest Persia is famous for refined, curvilinear floral designs, and Indian workshops have long woven rugs in that tradition, often called Indo Tabriz. Among hand-knotted Oriental rugs, this 9' x 12' piece stands out for its Tabriz-style drawing, its fine wool and silk surface and the deep black field that ties it all together.
