9'10" x 12'3" Persian Tabriz Rug, Ivory Field with Allover Floral Drawing and Palmette Border, 240 to 260 KPSI

A top-tier Persian Tabriz at 240 to 260 KPSI in mint never-used condition. A warm ivory field carries an exceptionally fluid allover floral composition, with scrolling vinework, large palmettes, floral bouquets, and small repeating sprigs drawn in red, navy, gold, salmon, and emerald, framed by an ivory main border of palmette and turtle motifs. No central medallion, no corner spandrels, just the field doing all the work. For more on what makes Tabriz workshop weaving exceptional, see our world of Persian rugs guide.

Design and Motifs

The composition is allover and directional. The ivory field is filled with continuous scrolling vinework that carries large palmettes in red, rose, and blue, scattered floral bouquets, paired serrated leaves, and small repeating floral sprigs and rosettes. Reading top to bottom, the drawing organizes itself into a soft vertical rhythm of repeating palmette clusters anchored on the central axis, with smaller floral elements filling the spaces between them. The fineness of the weave at 240 to 260 KPSI lets the drawing carry exceptional detail, every small leaf and rosette is rendered cleanly, and the curves of the arabesque scrollwork are smooth rather than stepped. The main border sits on a matching ivory ground and carries an alternating large palmette and turtle motif in rose, blue, salmon, and gold, framed on both sides by multiple narrow ivory guard borders running delicate floral chain repeats. The result is a composition that reads as a single continuous garden across the entire surface, without the visual interruption of a central medallion.

Colors and Placement

The palette is warm and confident. A creamy ivory ground reads as the dominant tone, brought to life by deep red and navy in the larger palmettes and border motifs, sky blue and emerald green in the leaves and scrollwork, gold in the smaller florets, and salmon and soft pink running through the bouquets. Slight natural abrash in the field is visible as gentle horizontal banding in the ivory, the soft variation that authentic vegetable-dyed wool develops when different dye batches are woven sequentially, and this is a hallmark of an honest hand-knotted rug rather than a flaw. At 9'10 by 12'3 this is a true 10x12 room size piece, comfortable under an 8 to 10 seat dining table with chairs pulled back, anchoring a living room with the front legs of all major furniture on the rug, filling a primary bedroom, or laying end-to-end in a long library or great room. The ivory ground reads beautifully in lighter interiors, with white or pale walls, blonde or medium wood floors, linen and natural fabric, and brass or antique gold accents, and the rug works equally in formal traditional, English country, Hamptons, and transitional schemes.

Origin and Construction

Tabriz, in the East Azerbaijan province of northwest Iran, is one of the most important Persian weaving centers, with a workshop tradition that traces back to the Safavid court ateliers and a reputation for technical precision, fine drawing, and disciplined color. This piece is fully hand-knotted in 100% wool on a 100% cotton foundation at approximately 240 to 260 KPSI, which puts it at the top end of Tabriz workshop production and is what makes the level of detail in the field drawing possible. The rug has never been on a floor, the pile sits full, and the color is fresh and saturated. Tabriz allover rugs in this size, knot density, and condition are exactly the kind of piece collectors and decorators look for as a long-term room anchor. For more on how wool pile compares to the silk highlight tradition you also see from Tabriz, see our guide on wool versus silk rugs.
