9'10" x 14'7" Persian Kashan Rug Featured on Shark Tank, Medallion Floral, Crimson Red and Navy
This magnificent room-size Persian Kashan rug carries a distinction few rugs can claim: it was featured on the hit television show Shark Tank, making it one of the most recognizable Persian rugs in America. Hand knotted in Kashan, Iran, one of the most historically prestigious weaving centers in the Persian rug world, this piece exemplifies the classic Kashan aesthetic that has made the city's rugs coveted by collectors, interior designers, and discerning buyers for over a century. Woven with a 100% wool pile on a cotton foundation, the rug is in excellent condition and has never been used, retaining the full depth and vibrancy of its original colors throughout.
Design and Motifs
The composition follows the quintessential Kashan medallion format, anchored by a large pointed oval medallion in deep navy blue with an ivory center cartouche detailed in pale powder blue. Four matching navy corner spandrels echo the medallion at each corner of the field, creating the classic symmetry associated with the finest Kashan work. The entire crimson field between the medallion and spandrels is densely filled with an intricate scrolling arabesque of palmettes, rosettes, lotus blossoms, split leaves, and spiraling vines, leaving almost no open ground visible and producing the characteristic jewel-like density of a fine Kashan. The border system is equally commanding, with a wide navy main border carrying a continuous scrolling floral vine, flanked on both sides by powder blue guard borders and an outer ivory guard with repeating small floral motifs.
Colors and Placement
The dominant color is a deep, saturated crimson red that fills the entire field, a classic Kashan ground color that has proven enduringly popular in traditional interiors for generations. Against this rich ground, the navy blue of the medallion, spandrels, and main border creates a strong and formal contrast that gives the rug its commanding presence. The ivory center cartouche and scattered ivory highlights throughout the field provide brightness and draw the eye to the center. Powder blue appears in the inner detail of the medallion cartouche, as a guard border flanking the main border, and as scattered floral accents throughout the field, lending the palette a cooler, more refined balance. Yellow-gold, soft green, and pale pink appear throughout the floral fill of the field and border, adding warmth and variety without disrupting the overall harmony. The ivory cotton fringe at both ends is clean and even.
Kashan Rugs
Kashan has been one of Iran's most important rug weaving centers for at least four centuries, producing some of the most technically accomplished and aesthetically refined rugs in the Persian tradition. Kashan rugs are woven with a wool pile on a cotton foundation using the asymmetric Persian knot, and are known for their fine detail, rich dye work, and the characteristic density of their floral arabesques. This rug, at nearly 10 by 15 feet, represents a significant investment in both materials and labor and would have required years of work by skilled weavers to complete at this scale. Its appearance on Shark Tank brought widespread national attention and placed it among a very small number of Persian rugs to have received that kind of mainstream recognition. It is equally at home anchoring a formal living room, dining room, or library, and its never-used condition means the new owner receives it exactly as it left the workshop.
