10'7" x 15' Oriental Chobi Rug | Ivory Diamond Lattice with Sage Zigzag Border | Made in India
Big rooms need rugs that can fill them, and this 10'7" x 15' Oriental rug does it with soft, quiet color. An ivory field is laid out in a grid of diamonds, alternating sky blue and olive green, all linked by teal leaves and fine golden vines. A wide sage and tan border with a bold zigzag band frames it all. It was hand-knotted in India in wool on a cotton foundation at 120 to 140 knots per square inch, in the muted, washed palette that Chobi rugs are loved for. It has a few distressed areas and uneven fringes, which are reflected in a substantially reduced price, and it comes with our certificate of authenticity.
Please Note About the Photographs:
This rug has a few distressed areas, shown in photos 2 and 3 and in the video, and its fringes are uneven. We have photographed it as it is so you can see exactly what you are buying, and the rug is substantially discounted to reflect its condition. If you would like more photos of any area, contact us and we will send them.
Design and Motifs
The field is a lattice of large diamonds, 3 columns across, alternating in color. In the outer columns, the diamonds are filled with sky blue blossoms and brown tendrils. In the center column, they hold a denser olive and moss green floral pattern. Where the diamonds meet, each point holds a teal rosette, and every lattice line is built from paired teal and olive leaves curling around round olive flower heads, with pale gold and tan arabesques running behind them. The result reads like a tiled floor in a garden pavilion: orderly from a distance, full of movement up close. The main border is wide and graphic. A soft tan ground carries a zigzag band of sea green and sky blue, with mustard and brown star-filled cartouches at every turn, sage cross-shaped flowers and scatterings of tiny ivory blossoms. Narrow ivory guard borders on both sides carry a running vine with teal palmettes, edged in rust and brown with small gold rosettes.
The Colors: Ivory, Sage and Sky Blue
The ivory field is soft and warm, closer to cream than to white, and it keeps a rug of this size from feeling heavy. Sky blue is the lightest accent, a pale, slightly grey blue that fills the outer diamonds. Olive and moss green fill the center diamonds, giving the field an earthy anchor. Teal, deeper and cooler, outlines the leaves and rosettes and gives the drawing its definition. In the border, sage and sea green carry the zigzag over a light tan ground, warmed by mustard gold and chocolate brown in the cartouches. The guard borders add the only real warmth in the rug: touches of rust and copper against ivory. Pale gold and tan run through the vine work everywhere. The whole palette has the soft, slightly faded look Chobi buyers want, a calm mix of greens, blues and neutrals that suits a modern or transitional room as easily as a traditional one. The fringe is natural ivory cotton.
Chobi Style, Woven in India
India is where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted work is made today, and its workshops weave every major style with skill. Chobi rugs are defined by their look: soft, low-contrast color, classical patterns drawn large and open, and a palette that feels gently aged rather than bright. This one follows that recipe closely, with a lattice field and a border scaled for a large room. At 120 to 140 knots per square inch on a cotton foundation, it is woven for floor use, with enough knots for clean leaves and rosettes and a pile that can take daily traffic. Among oversize Oriental rugs, a 10'7" x 15' hand-knotted Chobi at a substantially reduced price is a practical way to cover a great room, an open-plan living area or a long dining room. The distressed areas and uneven fringes are the trade-off, and they are shown openly in the photos and video.
