This is a true palace size Persian Najafabad, nearly 10 by 14 feet of hand-knotted wool woven in the grand Isfahan regional tradition. The rich red field, denim blue star medallion, and midnight navy borders give it the formal presence that oversized rooms demand, and despite its age class it has never spent a day on a floor. Rugs in this footprint are increasingly hard to source; most rooms are built around them, not the other way around.
Design and Motifs
At the center sits a sixteen point star medallion in denim and midnight blue, built around an ivory rosette core and radiating saz leaf points across the red ground. The field carries a generous allover program of Shah Abbas palmettes, layered carnations, and scrolling vines drawn in ivory, powder blue, olive, and amber, with navy pendant ornaments extending the medallion axis. Sweeping ivory spandrels edged in sage frame the field corners with their own palmette clusters. The midnight navy main border presents alternating rosettes and blossoming branches between a pair of ivory arabesque guard bands, each separated by fine red rules.
Colors and Placement
Red and navy is the most enduring pairing in Persian decor, warm, formal, and effectively immune to trends. The saturated red ground hides traffic and anchors large furniture groupings, while the blue medallion and ivory accents keep the expanse lively from every angle. Origin and Construction
Najafabad lies just west of Isfahan and weaves in that city's classical style: curvilinear medallion designs, disciplined borders, and sturdy construction meant for generations of use. This piece is hand-knotted at 180 to 200 knots per square inch with a full wool pile on a cotton foundation, a density that renders the drawing crisply while standing up to real life. It is in brand new, never used condition with full even pile and intact ivory fringe.
