10x13 Persian Meymeh | Cherry Red Stepped Diamond | Navy Spandrels | 220-240 KPSI
This 9'7" x 13' Persian Meymeh is the kind of piece that anchors a 10x13 room without needing any other statement in it. The field is a deep cherry red, fully covered in a tight stepped-diamond lattice of small geometric rosettes and tiny vase forms, all framed by a crisp ivory zigzag outline that lifts a large central lozenge against the surrounding navy ground. At its heart sits a small navy diamond medallion with an ivory four-petal rosette, just enough focal weight to organize the field without competing with it.
Design and Motifs
The field design is pure Meymeh: a stepped, ivory-outlined diamond enclosing a dense lattice of small repeating rosettes, with tiny urn and cypress fillers running through the navy spandrels at the four corners. The drawing is exceptionally even, every small motif sits cleanly inside its diamond cell, and the borders carry the same disciplined hand. The wide black main border alternates large paired hooked crosses with smaller geometric anchors, flanked by ivory X-cross guards and a navy outer guard with red and green floral sprigs. It is a tribal vocabulary executed with workshop precision.
Colors and Placement
The palette is a saturated cherry red field set against deep navy spandrels and a near-black border ground, with ivory, forest green, coral and small touches of indigo doing the highlight work. The contrast is high and the colors are jewel-toned, so the rug carries beautifully under both warm lamplight and cooler daylight. At 9'7" x 13' it is a true 10x13, sized for a king bed with two nightstands on top, a long dining table with chairs fully on the rug, or a large living room with a sectional and coffee table grouped over the center.
Origin and Construction
Meymeh (also spelled Maymeh or Meimeh) is a small weaving town in the Mahalat region of central Persia, near Joshaghan, long associated with this exact stepped-diamond compartment design. This piece is hand-knotted in 100% wool on a cotton foundation at 220 to 240 KPSI, which is dense for a village-tradition Meymeh and shows in how cleanly the small motifs read across a rug this size. The pile is full, the selvages and fringes are intact, and the rug is in excellent, never-used condition straight from our import inventory.
