This oversized 11 by 16 foot Persian Najafabad is a grand, formal piece in the classic style of the Isfahan region. At the center sits a layered eight-point star medallion, drawn on a navy ground and filled with interlaced palmettes, leaves, and a small sapphire-blue rosette at its very core, with elegant pendants reaching toward each end. Radiating out from it, the red field carries the full Shah Abbas vocabulary that defines this regional style: large palmettes, multi-petaled rosettes, curling split leaves, and slender vine scrolls that connect every blossom into one continuous, beautifully balanced garden.
