2'6" x 24'5" Indo Chobi Runner Rug | Burgundy Allover Palmettes | Ivory Floral Border | Extra Long Hallway
Very long hallways are hard to dress, and a single 2'6" x 24'5" runner like this one solves the problem without joining 2 or 3 shorter pieces end to end. It is hand-knotted in wool pile on a cotton foundation at approximately 140 to 180 knots per square inch, with a soft, full pile that is comfortable underfoot and forgiving of daily traffic. The runner has never been used, is in excellent condition and comes with a certificate of authenticity. At more than 24 feet, it is one of the longest pieces in our collection of extra long runner rugs, made for corridors, galleries and long landings.
Design and Motifs
Instead of a medallion, the field carries an allover pattern of palmettes, rosettes and small blossoms linked by thin curling vines, a layout that suits a runner because it reads the same from every point along the hall. Larger palmettes with dark centers alternate with smaller open rosettes in a loose diagonal rhythm, so the eye keeps moving down the length rather than stopping on a single focal point. Leafy sprays and tendrils fill the spaces between them. An ivory main border runs the full length on both sides, with a repeat of palmettes and leaf forms drawn in the same soft palette as the field, and narrow guard stripes set it off from the burgundy ground. The drawing is traditional, but the softened color keeps it relaxed rather than formal.
Burgundy, Ivory and Khaki
A deep burgundy ground runs the entire length and does most of the work, a wine tone rich enough to hide everyday wear in a busy hall. Against it the palmettes are drawn mainly in khaki and beige, warm, slightly greenish neutrals that give the field a muted, sun-softened look rather than a high contrast one. Muted pink appears in the petals of the rosettes and the smaller blossoms, adding warmth without brightness. Dark gray and black outline the palmettes and fill their centers, which gives each motif a crisp edge when you look closely. Ivory and creme fill the main border, a light frame that keeps the long burgundy field from feeling heavy and lets the runner's outline show clearly against a wood or stone floor.
Chobi Weaving in India
Chobi is a trade name taken from a Dari word for wood, a nod to the natural plant-based dyes the style is known for, and it describes rugs with softened, gently muted color rather than saturated tones. Workshops in India weave Chobi rugs in classic palmette and vine designs on a cotton foundation, aiming for an easy, lived-in look that fits traditional and contemporary rooms alike. These are not Persian rugs, and we list them among our hand-knotted Oriental rugs woven across Asia. This runner brings that style to an unusual length: more than 24 feet of burgundy and khaki palmettes in one continuous piece, framed in ivory from end to end.
