3'6" x 5'6" Persian Isfahan Pictorial Rug | Signed Javad Eslimi | Silk Foundation 600 KPSI
This Persian Isfahan rug is a signed work by Javad Eslimi, widely regarded as the leading name in Isfahan pictorial weaving. Eslimi devoted his looms almost entirely to pictorial subjects, landscapes, and architectural scenes, and his work is known for a level of geometric accuracy and lifelike detail that few workshops have ever matched. Woven roughly three decades ago on a pure silk foundation at approximately 600 knots per square inch, this piece was never placed on a floor. It remains absolutely flawless and presents today exactly as it did the day it left the loom.
Design and Motifs
The scene draws the eye down a cobblestone garden path lined with knotted roses, carnations, tulips, and irises, alive with songbirds, butterflies, and a striking blue parrot in flight. The path leads to a grand Persian mansion rendered in remarkable perspective, complete with spiral carved columns, arched windows, blue tilework, twin staircases, and a woven calligraphy band across the facade. Above it all, cypress trees and a flock of birds cross a graduated blue sky. Framing the picture are ivory and terracotta borders filled with doves, palmettes, and flowering vines.
Master Weaver Craftsmanship
The pile combines kork wool, the soft fleece shorn from the neck and underbelly of the lamb, with silk highlights that catch the light across the sky, the birds, and the floral details. At roughly 600 knots per square inch on a silk foundation, the weave achieves the painterly shading and crisp linework that define Eslimi's reputation. The signature cartouche is woven into the lower edge, and the back of the rug shows the precise, even knotting expected of a top Isfahan atelier.
Size and Placement
At 3'6" x 5'6", this piece works beautifully in the popular 4x6 footprint for a bedroom, study, entryway, or reading corner, though many collectors choose to display a signed Eslimi pictorial on the wall, where it reads like a framed painting. Because it was never used, it arrives in truly pristine condition and is equally at home as a floor piece or a collectible work of textile art.
