This oval hand-hooked Oriental rug brings the grace of a French Aubusson to a soft ivory ground. A central bouquet of roses and blossoms sits inside an open laurel wreath, the field around it left calm and uncluttered, and a garland of flowers and acanthus leaves traces the oval edge. At 8'2 x 11'5 it is a rare large oval, the natural choice under an oval or extending dining table where a rectangle never sits quite right.
Design and Motifs
The composition follows the classic Aubusson formula of center, wreath, and border. The central bouquet gathers layered roses, star blossoms, and buds in dusty rose, blush, and burgundy among sage and olive leaves. Around it, a wreath of serrated acanthus fronds and flower clusters opens at the sides, letting the ivory ground breathe. The border garland repeats the same vocabulary in a gentle rhythm of scrolling leaves and rosettes, drawn with the relaxed, hand guided charm that makes hooked rugs feel personal rather than printed.
Colors and Placement
The palette is soft and sun warmed: ivory and cream grounds with dusty rose, blush pink, burgundy, sage, olive, taupe, and touches of gray blue. It reads light and airy in a room, pairing as easily with French country and cottage interiors as with traditional and grandmillennial schemes. The oval shape suits a dining room beautifully, seating a table with chairs fully on the rug, and works equally well defining a seating group in a living room or bedroom.
Origin and Construction
The rug was hand-hooked in India with a 100% wool pile pulled loop by loop through a cotton foundation at a loop count of 50 to 60 per square inch, giving a dense, springy, low profile surface that handles real life easily. It has never been used and is in excellent condition.
A note on condition. The light lines visible in some photos are wrinkles from warehouse storage on pallets, not a defect in the rug. They flatten out once the rug lies on the floor, and we professionally iron every rug before shipping so it arrives ready to place.
