This signed Persian Kashan carries the woven signature of its workshop on the end border, the mark of a weaving house confident enough to put its name on its work. The field is a deep midnight navy, so saturated it reads almost black in low light, and every inch of it is filled with drawing. At the center sits a compact ivory and powder blue star medallion, deliberately small in proportion to the field, a hallmark of refined Kashan design that lets the allover pattern carry the composition rather than a dominant centerpiece.

Design and Motifs

The medallion is a 16 point star built from layered ivory, celadon, and pale gold rings, with delicate blossoms and split leaf forms radiating from a small brick red rosette at its heart. From there the field unfolds as a continuous lattice of large lotus palmettes, eight petal rosettes, curling saz leaves, and slender vine scrolls, all drawn in cream and antique gold with powder blue and olive shading. There is no open ground anywhere; the design density is constant from medallion to border, which is what separates a serious Kashan from an ordinary one. The main border alternates composed palmette bouquets with flowering sprays on the same navy ground, framed by a pair of celadon guard bands carrying a fine reciprocal vine, with thin gold rules crisply separating each band.

Colors and Placement

The palette is classic Kashan restraint: midnight navy, ivory, and a family of golds from pale straw to deep mustard, accented with powder blue, slate, olive, and small touches of brick red that warm the rosette centers. The dark ground hides traffic and anchors a room, while the gold and ivory drawing keeps it luminous rather than heavy. It suits a formal living room, dining room, library, or executive office equally well. The 8'4 x 12'1 footprint fits a standard large room with furniture legs comfortably on the rug, a rare size in our collection; you can see all our 8x12 rugs here.

Origin and Construction

Kashan, in central Persia, is one of the most storied names in rug weaving, and this piece shows the city's workshop discipline: 180 to 200 hand-tied knots per square inch on a cotton foundation, with a dense, springy wool pile that takes light beautifully. It was woven roughly 30 to 35 years ago, yet it has never been used and presents as if it came off the loom this year, with full pile height, crisp edges, and intact fringe. The woven signature documents its workshop origin and adds collector value. To learn what sets these rugs apart, read our complete Persian Kashan rug guide
