Design and Motifs
At the center sits a lobed medallion with a stepped outline, its core filled with a fine lattice of small rosettes. From it, navy arms reach outward in 4 directions, and pointed pendants extend toward each end of the rug. The tomato red field around the medallion is divided by lattice panels filled with the same small rosettes, along with scrolling vines, palmettes and flower sprays. Large ivory spandrels shape the field into a lobed frame, and they are filled with paisley botehs, willow and cypress forms and curling leaves. The main border is royal blue, with pink cartouches, ivory star rosettes and small vase and tree motifs on a field of lattice flowers. Ivory guard stripes and a red outer band complete the frame.
