This 9'5" x 12'10" Persian Mashad is the kind of richly drawn floral that anchors a 10x13 room without needing any other statement piece in it. The field is a deep cherry red, dressed in a continuous arabesque of palmettes, lotus blossoms, and curling vine work in ivory, sky blue, salmon, olive green, and pink, all radiating around a large eight-pointed star medallion at the center. Design and Motifs

The medallion is the showpiece. An eight-point star on a deep navy ground, packed with a ring of ivory and cream teardrop cartouches around a small pink rosette core, with sky blue accents lifting the whole thing off the red field. Floral pendants in caramel and salmon extend top and bottom, drawing the eye down the length of the rug. The spandrels at the four corners pick up the same navy ground and stage smaller floral cartouches in caramel, salmon, and ivory, framing the field without crowding it.

Colors and Placement

The palette is what sets this piece apart from a typical Tabriz or Kashan. The cherry red and navy core is lifted by a warm caramel and salmon that runs through the spandrels and the inner border, with pink, olive green, and sky blue doing the floral highlights. The wide navy main border carries a continuous floral repeat with the same color language as the field, framed by a caramel inner border with anchored palmettes and multiple narrow guard stripes. At 9'5" x 12'10" it is a true 10x13, sized for a king bed with full nightstand coverage, a long dining table with chairs comfortably on the rug, or a living room with a sectional and two armchairs grouped over the medallion.

Mashad (also spelled Mashhad or Meshed) is the capital of Khorasan Province in northeastern Persia and one of the country's great historic weaving cities, known for richly drawn medallion designs and warm caramel-toned palettes that read differently from the cooler Isfahan or Tabriz traditions. This piece is hand-knotted in 100% wool on a cotton foundation at 180 to 200 KPSI, with a full pile, intact selvages and fringes, and is in excellent, never-used condition straight from our import inventory.
