Design and Motifs

The drawing is all straight lines and stepped angles, the hallmark of the Heriz idiom. At the center is a navy hexagonal medallion filled with 8 petal rosettes, small ivory lattice panels, hooked crosses and tiny animal figures, ringed by an ivory band of comb-like teeth and a serrated ivory outline. Above and below, two elongated navy pendants repeat the rosette theme inside ivory palmette scrollwork, each anchored by a small diamond finial. The 4 corners are filled with broad ivory spandrels carrying bold stepped key motifs, crowned tripod figures, star rosettes and a pair of curled ram's horn forms, so the field reads as a single continuous composition rather than a medallion dropped on a plain ground. The main border alternates rust cartouches holding gray vase forms with large ivory and peach rosettes, flanked by a tan vine guard stripe and a navy outer band of small paired blossoms.
