6'9" x 10' Persian Isfahan | Signed Pezeshki | Kork Wool and Silk | 500 KPSI

A signed Pezeshki workshop piece from the city of Isfahan, woven in fine kork wool with silk highlights on a pure silk foundation at approximately 500 knots per square inch. The composition is a balanced allover floral design on an ivory ground framed by a deep crimson main border, the kind of formal classical layout that has defined fine Isfahan weaving for generations. Learn more in our complete guide to Isfahan rugs.

Design and Motifs

The ivory field is animated by a delicate scrolling vine system that links rosettes, lotus palmettes, and feathered split-leaf forms in mirrored repeats. Curling saz leaves arc through the composition and give the field a sense of slow, deliberate movement, while smaller blossoms and tendrils fill the negative space without crowding it. The crimson main border carries large palmette cartouches set against scrolling vinework, flanked by narrow ivory guard borders of stylized rosettes. The drawing is precise and confident throughout, with the kind of fine pictorial control that signed Isfahan ateliers are known for.

Colors and Placement

A soft ivory field reads bright and open in daylight and warms into cream under lamps, while the deep crimson border anchors the rug visually and gives the room a defined frame. Indigo, sky blue, olive, and touches of rose run through the floral palette, with silk highlights catching light on the leaves and rosettes for that signature Isfahan shimmer. At 6'9" x 10' the rug works beautifully as a centerpiece in a formal living room with a sofa and two flanking chairs sitting on it, under a 72 to 84 inch dining table for a six to eight person setting, or as a primary anchor in a master bedroom with the foot of the bed resting on the upper third.

Isfahan Rugs and Construction

Isfahan has been a center of Persian court weaving since the Safavid era, and signed workshops like Pezeshki continue that tradition with kork wool (the soft underbelly fleece of the lamb), silk highlights, and a pure silk foundation that lets weavers tie extremely fine knots without distortion. This piece is woven at approximately 500 KPSI across a 67.5 square foot surface, equivalent to roughly 4.86 million individual hand-tied knots, representing several years of work at the loom by skilled artisans. The silk warps give the back its tight, even grid and the rug its precise structure, while the kork wool pile delivers a soft hand and a quiet luster you can see in the field. Pieces of this caliber are made to be passed down. To understand the tradeoffs between wool, silk, and combined pile construction, see our complete guide to handmade rug materials.
