13' x 20'2" Persian Tabriz Rug | Signed Wool and Silk Masterpiece | Ivory Field | Rose Medallion | 400 KPSI

This signed Persian Tabriz is a mansion-size masterpiece, woven in wool and silk on a pure silk foundation at an exceptional 400 knots per square inch. A luminous rose and ivory medallion floats at the center of a chiffon-white field that is filled, inch by inch, with one of the most intricate floral compositions the Tabriz looms produce. At just over twenty feet long, it is conceived for the grandest of rooms, and its fineness rewards close viewing as much as it commands a space.

Design and Motifs

The composition is a classical Tabriz medallion-and-corner layout drawn with extraordinary delicacy. At its heart, a scalloped rose cartouche frames a pale ivory medallion filled with fine arabesques, paired birds, and a small central rosette, with elegant pendants reaching along the long axis. The ivory field around it is a dense paradise garden of curling vine scrolls, palmettes, blossoming sprays, and tiny birds, all rendered in the silk-highlighted detail that gives the surface its shimmer. Soft salmon and ivory corner spandrels carry heart-shaped boteh cartouches, and the coral main border presents a stately rhythm of palmettes and serrated leaves between finely drawn floral guard stripes. A signature cartouche is woven into the end panel, marking the workshop that produced it.

Colors and Placement

The palette is soft, light, and beautifully balanced: a chiffon-white and ivory ground lit with rose, coral, salmon, gold, sky blue, and gentle green. Where the silk is worked into the pile, the flowers and scrolls catch the light and shift in tone as you move around the rug, giving the design a quiet, living luminosity. The pale ground keeps so detailed a pattern feeling open and elegant rather than heavy, and the central medallion anchors the enormous field with calm authority. This is a rug for a formal living room, a grand foyer, or a great room, and its refinement also makes it a true work of art, suited to display as a wall hanging where its drawing can be admired at length.

Origin and Construction

Tabriz, in northwest Persia, is one of the oldest and most distinguished weaving cities in the world, celebrated for finely knotted medallion carpets of exactly this caliber. This piece is hand-knotted in wool and silk on a silk foundation at roughly 400 knots per square inch, a density that allows the curved arabesques, birds, and minute florals to be drawn with painterly precision across a rug of mansion scale. Woven in the 2000s and never used, it is in excellent condition.
