6'5" x 10'4" Hand-Knotted Persian Isfahan Rug, Signed by Master Feizollah Haghighi | Rare Saffron Yellow Field with Navy Floral Border | Kork Wool and Silk on Silk Foundation | Approximately 700 KPSI

A genuinely museum-grade Persian carpet from the most celebrated weaving city in Iran, this 6'5" x 10'4" Isfahan is signed by Master Feizollah Haghighi, one of the most important and most collected master weavers in modern Isfahan history. The rug is hand-knotted at approximately 700 knots per square inch in kork wool (the soft underbelly wool of young lambs) and pure silk, on a 100% silk foundation, and carries an exceptionally high silk content even by Haghighi standards: the corner spandrel medallions, most of the field flowers, and parts of the central medallion are woven entirely in pure silk, giving the rug a luminous shimmer that shifts dramatically as you walk around it. The composition is the classical Isfahan central-medallion idiom drawn at master level, set on a rare and remarkable saffron yellow field framed by a wide midnight navy main border. Learn more about why Isfahan rugs are universally considered the finest carpets in the world in our complete Persian Isfahan rug guide.

Design and Motifs

The composition centers on a small, finely drawn navy medallion in the precise Isfahan style, surrounded by a sage-green sub-medallion of overlapping lobed petals carrying intricate ivory, sky-blue, soft-rose, and silk-highlighted floral filigree. From the medallion outward, the saffron yellow field is carried by a continuous tracery of slender vines bearing palmettes, lotus blossoms, paisleys, leafy rosettes, and small blossoms drawn at the precise scale that distinguishes top-tier Isfahan workshop production. The field flowers are woven almost entirely in silk, which catches light differently from the kork wool ground and creates a constant subtle shimmer across the whole field. The rug is framed by ornate sage-green corner spandrels with luminous silk highlights, then a wide midnight navy main border carrying a stately repeat of large palmettes connected by curling vines and small floral cartouches. A signature cartouche at the top of the rug carries the master's name in Persian script: "Iran Esfahan F. Haghighi" with a date, woven directly into the structure of the carpet.

Colors and Placement

The defining color of this rug is its rare saffron yellow field, a warm golden mustard tone that is genuinely unusual in fine Isfahan production and gives the carpet a quietly regal presence. The yellow shifts subtly with the light: under daylight it reads bright and almost gilded, while under warm incandescent light it deepens toward a richer honey-amber. Around the saffron field the palette is built on midnight navy borders with finely drawn sage green spandrels, and the field flowers carry brick red, terracotta, soft rose, pale pink, sky blue, periwinkle, ivory, and small accents of black, all of which read with extra luminosity wherever silk has been used in the weaving. The combination of saffron field, navy border, and silk highlights gives the rug a jewel-like presence that anchors a room without dominating it. At 6'5" x 10'4" the rug suits a wide range of formal interiors: a primary living room with the front legs of furniture on the rug, a study or library, a primary bedroom at the foot of a queen or king bed, a formal dining room comfortably seating a 4 to 6 person table, or a generous foyer or hallway anchor in a substantial home.

Persian Isfahan Rugs and the Haghighi Workshop

Isfahan, the historic Safavid capital of Iran, has been the unquestioned center of fine Persian carpet production since the 16th century, when Shah Abbas I established the imperial workshops that produced some of the most celebrated carpets in human history. Modern Isfahan production continues that lineage at the very highest level, woven in master workshops on silk foundations using kork wool and silk pile at extreme knot densities, typically 600 to 850 knots per square inch. Among modern Isfahan masters, the name Haghighi stands at the very top tier; rugs signed by Master Feizollah Haghighi are sought after by serious Persian rug collectors and consistently command strong premiums in both retail and collector markets. This particular rug stands out even within the Haghighi body of work for its exceptionally high silk content; in most fine Isfahan production silk is reserved for highlights and outlines, but here entire floral motifs, the corner medallions, and parts of the central medallion are woven in pure silk, dramatically increasing both the labor cost and the visual luminosity of the finished rug. Hand-knotted at approximately 700 KPSI across the 66 square foot surface using the Persian senneh asymmetric knot, this rug represents roughly 6.7 million individual hand-tied knots, a labor of multiple years for a master weaver. Combined with the silk foundation, kork wool and pure silk pile, classical Isfahan medallion drawing, rare saffron palette, and the Haghighi master signature, this rug represents a genuinely investment-grade Persian carpet at a direct-importer price.
